About Ultraviolet (UV) Light and Water Quality
Confidence in our water -- clean, safe water -- has been increasingly challenged over the past decade. Ten years ago, how many of us had heard of E. coli, Cryptosporidium or Giardia? Today, these waterborne bacteria and parasites are almost as well known as polio, typhoid, and cholera were to a past generation. High-profile, waterborne disease outbreaks in Canada and the United States have made us all aware that water contaminated with microorganisms can cause serious illness and death.
The Challenges
While contaminated water is generally seen as a Third World problem, there is mounting evidence that most industrialized countries have not properly managed their water resources and, as a result, are now facing serious challenges as well. Important aquifers in many parts of the world are at critically low levels because of overuse. Farming and industrial activities are contaminating water resources throughout North America and Europe. Harmful chemicals such as pesticides, NMDA and 2-4 dioxane have entered our water supplies. The European Environmental Agency (EEA) estimates that some 200,000 square kilometres of European territory may be seriously polluted in 50 years if no remedial action is taken. This is a staggering problem since 65 per cent of public drinking water in Europe is drawn from groundwater. Confidence in our ability to protect our water has been further eroded by questions about the effectiveness and safety of traditional chlorine water treatment. Evidence of chlorine-resistant pathogens, and concerns about cancer-causing disinfection by-products resulting from chlorine treatment, have led to new EPA guidelines requiring municipalities in the U.S. to reduce or eliminate their use of chlorine. The UV Solution As governments and regulators around the world move to protect their water, those responsible for its treatment and delivery are looking for solutions. The answer lies in ultraviolet light. UV technology is a proven, cost-efficient, and highly effective way to destroy microorganisms and micropollutants. Increasingly, municipalities and plant operators are turning to UV to ensure the safety and quality of their water - to regain confidence in these supplies. The case for UV A tested and established technology, UV water disinfection has earned the confidence of thousands of municipalities in North America and Europe as a highly effective way to disinfect drinking water, wastewater, and water for industrial processes. Over 2,000 municipal groundwater and surface drinking water installations in Europe, and 1,000 groundwater installations in the United States, rely on UV disinfection. Backed by 60 years of operating experience and sound research, UV is rapidly becoming the technology of choice for wastewater treatment and a critical component of multi-barrier drinking water treatment systems. So what is UV? And why is it a superior solution? Each time we go outside, we are exposed to ultraviolet (UV) light. Invisible to the eye, you can't see it, but you certainly can feel its burning effects on your skin if you stay out in the sun too long without proper protection. In water treatment applications, specialized lamps are used to produce UV light. As water rushes by these lamps, microorganisms in the water are exposed to a lethal dose of UV energy which destroys their ability to function and reproduce. The process is simple and 99.99 percent effective. The advantages and benefits of UV are numerous. For example, UV technology: ¡ is EPA-endorsed ¡ destroys bacteria (E. coli), viruses (hepatitis and polio), and virtually all other water-borne pathogens ¡ destroys Giardia and Cryptosporidium which are resistant to chlorine ¡ eliminates harmful micropollutants (such as herbicides and pesticides) ¡ is safe to handle ¡ works at least 20 times faster than chlorine ¡ is environmentally friendly -- no toxic chemicals, no chlorine leaks ¡ produces no known disinfection by-products, unlike chlorine ¡ is more cost-effective than chlorine systems UV. It all adds up to water confidence.

TROLINING GmbH
TROLINING GmbH
A Troliner
A Troliner being unwound and drawn into the sewer line. Section lengths of up to 200 m are available depending on the specific line I.D. to be rehabbed.
Installed TROLINING
Installed TROLINING SelfCleaning System in a 800 mm (or 32 inch) I.D. line. The self-cleaning surface texturing is clearly visible in the invert.
Lateral connections
In addition to conventional connection methods such as grout or resin injection and open-cut installed PE or PVC saddle flanges, Trolining offers the following state-of-the-art solutions for lateral connections: • Inverted HDPE saddles • HDPE pipe sections
Manhole lining with HDPE sheets
Our rehabilitation technology combines the service-proven lining performance of HDPE with the structural stability of cement. Rehabilitation by the TROLINING process is your guarantee of outstanding quality and a long useful life of the renovated line.
Rehabilitation of man-entry pipes by installation of HDPE segments
The TROLINING System is also employable for the rehabilitation of pipes larger than 2000mm (or 80 inch) I.D.. HDPE segments or sheets are introduced into the host pipe and joined to each other by PE extrusion welding according DVS standard 2207, part 4, to form a continuous lining section. Spacers might be placed between Troliner and Preliner respectively between Troliner and host pipe (depending on chosen system configuration) to form a uniform annular void space. To increase the system’s load-bearing capacity, rebar can be integrated into the annulus. After securing the HDPE lining by wooden formwork or steel shuttering, high-strength concrete of specific composition is pumped into the void space. As with all type of TROLINING Systems, the concrete respectively grout provides the necessary structural capability of the new composite structure. Long term performance is guaranteed by encapsulation the structure with an outside (Preliner) and inside (Troliner) HDPE layer, thus avoiding any kind of corrosion. TROLINING’s specific installation method for large sized pipes allows flexible adaptation to the individual needs. In man-sized lines, segmental lining can additionally be used to rehabilitate elbows and corners or to react to changes in pipe shape.
Robotic Systems
Rehabilitation of non-man-sized lines in the range of 250 to 600mm (or 10 to 24 inch) I.D. is done with the aid of proprietary robot technology which executes cutting and lateral connections in accordance with state-of-the-art standards. Exceptional connection quality is achieved with our inverted HDPE saddle
The TROLINING Basic System
The heart of the TROLINING pipe rehabilitation system is the Troliner, an HDPE liner with specially designed embedment studs on its outer surface. Following fabrication and QC testing in the production plant, the Troliner is transported to the site and drawn into the host line, providing a smooth inner surface which is ideal for fluid conduction. The annular void between the host pipe surface and the Troliner is filled with TROLINING injection grout, the “TROLINING Injektor”. The grout permeates into the existing surface, completely filling voids caused by cracks, loose fragments and deteriorated joints of brick work sewers. The direct full-surface bond between the Troliner and the host pipe surface ensures secure placement and also prevents thermal expansion as encountered in conventional polyethylene liners. In steel and reinforced concrete pipelines, the grout provides further benefits as its alkalinity provides effective protection against corrosion.
The TROLINING Double System
Double-liner systems are used in applications requiring additional structural load-bearing capacity and high-security containment. These systems are made by combining Basic and/or Preliner Systems concentrically as required. Installation of each system layer is carried out separately, even for large-diameter and specialty systems. The peripheral grouting around each layer bonds it securely to the adjacent outer layer, resulting in an interlocking PE/concrete composite structure.

TURBOTECNICA S.r.l.
TURBOTECNICA S.r.l.
rotating shot blasting unit alfa
The rotating table shot-blasting machines are the most simple, versatile and economic solution to the surface treatment needs. The parts are loaded on the rotating table: their lateral and top surfaces are subject to the shots thrown by the turbines. The table diameter can vary from 500 to 2500mm, with a load capacity up to 1500 Kg. The machine does not require a pit, and is supplied complete with a self-cleaning dry cartridges dust collector
Compressed air shot-blasting machines
The compressed air automatic blasting machines can be employed even with non-metallic shots, such as ceramic, aluminium oxide, glass, which cannot be used in the airless machines.
Hook type shot-blasting machine - DELTA
The shot-blasting machines type “DELTA” are the most versatile in terms of typical employment and size of the materials to be treated. In fact the customer can choose the size and loading capacity of the machine according to the parts to be shot-blasted. The materials are hanged on the hook, and this is manually or automatically transferred into the blasting room. Once in position, the hook starts to rotate on its axis and move back and forward in front of the turbines (mounted on one side of the machine). These combined movements ensure the complete shot-blasting of the parts external surface.
Shot blasting machine with conveyor - NTOR
The tunnel type machine “NTOR” is a continuous shot-blasting unit with a special wear-proof steel wire conveyor. The layout of the machine consists of a tunnel having the blasting room in the middle section. The 4 or 8 turbines are mounted above and below the belt conveyor, and are orientated in a way to ensure the perfect surface covering even for the most complex parts. The final section of the tunnel is provided with a blowing system to remove the shots possibly remaining on the parts. The machine does not require a pit, and is supplied complete with a self-cleaning dry cartridges dust collector.
Shot-blasting machine with rolls conveyor - GAMMA
The tunnel type machine “GAMMA” is a continuous shot-blasting unit with a motorised rolls conveyor, employed for surface treatment of plates, profiles, pipes and steel structures. The number and location of the turbines are optimised to ensure the full coverage of the materials transported by the conveyor. By the frequency inverter for the rolls conveyor driving unit, the operator can choose the best compromise between the production speed and the final result, depending on materials condition before shot-blasting. A blowing and brushing device ensure the shots removal from the surface of the blasted parts. The machine type “GAMMA” can be installed “in-line” with a painting facility. For plates only it is also available the model with the conveyor in vertical position (type “VERT”). The shot-blasting unit is supplied complete with a self-cleaning dry cartridges dust collector.
tumble blast machines
The tumble blast machines with rubber belt conveyor are employed for the surface treatment of batches of parts, loaded manually or automatically by means of a hydraulic skip loader. The belt conveyor is made of wear-proof rubber. Its rotation makes the parts tumbling, and by this movement the whole surfaces of the parts are exposed to the shots thrown by the turbines. The offloading of the parts is obtained by the rotation of the belt conveyor in the opposite sense. Parts can fall directly into the empty container or through an offloading belt or vibrating conveyor. The loading capacity can vary from 35 to 1500 litres and/or from 45 to 1000 Kilos in weight. The machine does not require a pit, and is supplied complete with a self-cleaning dry cartridges dust collector.
