Rabtherm AG
The Creation Of Value
The technology makes sense in cities starting from 5'000 inhabitants. A condition is a sewage system, whose main line has a diameter from 400 to 800 mm. National conveyances are available for such faciliities. RABTHERM AG is pleased to advise and support you in this regard. The heat exchangers, which are concreted into the channels, are very durable, last for approx. 50 years and produces only minimum maintenance costs. The investment into a RABTHERM facility pay off already after two to eight years. A further advantage: appartments with progressive energy concepts leave themselves better for renting, because more and more people put attention on ecological aspects.
The Development
The goal of the R&D department was to develop a simple, robust, economical and durable system which can be used both in existing and in new channels.
The Idea
It is a requirement of the time that we recycle waste heat from industrial or domestic uses. What happens with the waste water? From the eyes, from the sense? To use these resources was the entrance to the idea, to the energy system RABTHERM, which is internationally patented.
The Market
Buildings with high heating and/or cooling demand. Compared with conventional energy sources, RABTHERM systems provide many advantages.
The Product
So far the warm water from showers, washing machines and buckets flows unused through drains up to the next sewage purification plant. The Rabtherm principle is simple and efficient: The lukewarm waste water is cooled down around maximum 2,0 °C (3,5 F) (maximum 0,5 °C / 1 F over a 24-hour-day). The energy is transported by long-distance pipe to the respective buildings. By heat pumps the temperature is brought up to 65 °C (150 F) for heating and warm-water supply
The Technology
The heat exchangers can be installed both in drains of new buildings and when reorganizing existing systems. A cubic meter waste water, corresponds to about five bath tubs, in this case the heat exchanger wins two to three kilowatt-hours energy. An energy-saving lamp burns 200 to 300 hours. In this way a RABTHERM facility can reduce fuel consumption by 60-70 %. Even with a tubing downward gradient of under one per cent or in overflow channels the system can be used.
ROMAG AG Schweiz
Dust-free drying
By contrast with conventional belt driers, the POLYTHERMÂŽ belt drier operates with infrared radiation. An appropriately tight array of heating tubes which are heated so that they emit in the infrared band in the area specified forms a high-temperature zone. The heat is issued at this point by the heating tubes in the form of radiation and convection. This abruptly forms a crust on the surface of the material to be dried. Thus, each individual pellet is provided with a degree of stability which prevents it collapsing subsequently and thus forming dust. Drying is performed by convection in the downstream area. Gas burners, oil burners, superheated gases and/or superheated steam are used as the heat sources.
No odours
The process air ducting system now routes the hot air, saturated with water, to the condenser. The air is then cooled and the condensate produced is routed to the drainage pipe. The air which is now cool again is routed through a further fan to the flue gas heat exchanger. There is an additional fan, used to feed fresh air into the process circuit, if required between the fan and the flue-gas heat exchanger.
Retention of floating material at overflow structures
The contamination of surface water resources by combined water from overflow systems and partly also from stromwater tanks, consists of all the solids which are present in the waste water. This involves a very wide range of dissolved, semi-dissolved, fiber and solid substances with different structures and specific weights (plastic strips, sanitary towels, diapers, condoms, faecal matter, paper etc.). The increasing restoration of surface water resources to their natural state makes it essential to avoid such discharges of floating material in the future. The construction of immersed walls in overflow structures only enables part of the discharge of floating substances to be avoided, because considerable flow velocities are likely to build up with the generally short spaces which exist between the immersion walls; these velocities tend to increase the discharge of solid material. Continuous basins can only perform their function to a limited degree because of the large volumes of water and the increasingly high proportion of light materials. Retention basins and retention channels have the drawback that untreated combined water is discharged into the outfall once they are full. A basin-screen combination is the best way of meeting the criteria in such cases. In this concept, retention of the heavily contaminated flushing surge is the main task of the basins. On the other hand, the screen removes light, floating and solid substances which would otherwise contaminate the outfall area (Figures 1 and 2).

of the ROMAG high-performance CSO screen RSW-K: Optimum utilisation of available storage volume Dispenses with the need to make high investments in retaining capacity volume Drastically reduces the number of relief operations Prevents unnecessary contamination of the receiving water courses Allows reliable quantity measurements Has an increased efficiency when subject to part load Is safe and reliable to operate Permanently cleans mechanically Is corrosion-resistant Is rugged Requires little maintenance Transports the caught material from the inlet zone Materials either 316L or 304L
WWTP Telli at Aarau, ROMAG CSO screen RSW-K
CSO screen RSW-K has already proven successful in very many applications. However, close cooperation with the offices and agencies involved is necessary in order to achieve a reliably operating installation. This is necessary in order to determine and comply with the hydraulic boundary conditions. This concerns a streamlined feed to the CSO screen and discharge to the sewage treatment plant with the required downgrade: The caught material which is transported by the screen to a defined point must move continuously downwards into the discharge path. For instance, a shaft for the caught material may need to be used depending on local conditions

Archimedean screw pumps
The Archimedean screw pump can certainly claim to be the oldest pump as far as the transport of liquids is concerned. In the third century before Christ Archimedes, the Greek mathematician and scientist invented the â Archimedean screwâ which was used at that time to lift water. Traditional characteristics such as - high operational safety - reliability - long serviceability are bywords for the â Archimedean screw pumpâ. Optimum efficiency, even in the partial load range guarantees considerable economy. Archimedean screw pumps are the ideal choice to lift high capacities up to fixed heads. Large passages and the open screw make it possible to handle solids laden liquids without the danger of a blockage. Slow speeds prevent premature wear and are also beneficial for delicate media. Self-regulating adjustment of screw pump capacity to varying inflow volume at constant speed ensures even loading of the treatment plant without additional control mechanisms. Self-regulating adjustment of screw pump capacity to varying inflow volume at constant speed ensures even loading of the treatment plant without additional control mechanisms. TOP BEARING Generously rated grease lubricated ball/roller bearings located in a cast iron housing absorb the axial and radial forces of the Archimedean screw pump. Occurring forces will be led to the solid base. BOTTOM BEARING Grease lubricated journal bearing which enables continues operation under more difficult conditions in waste water applications. The robust dimensioned journal shaft and the highly durable renewable bearing bush in special bronze with low friction properties are determined by the maximum radial forces occurring as well as axial expansion due to ambient temperature changes. During operation the bottom bearing is fed continuously with grease from an automatic lubricator and hermetically sealed against ingress of the surrounding liquid. eco-line bearing arrangement The eco-line bearing is a fully enclosed, maintenance-free and environmentally-friendly screw conveyor bearing. A multi-stage sealing system reliably prevents the conveying medium from penetrating into the bearing, thus ensuring a long service life. The permanent lubrication of the anti-friction bearing stops the conveying medium being polluted by lubricating grease. Deployment of the eco-line bearing therefore saves energy and maintenance costs and avoids the consumption of lubricating greases. The eco-line bearing can be retrofitted to all existing plant without any fuss. HELIX Screw blades are continuously multiple-thread welded onto a rigid support pipe with sealing covers welded water-tight. The top and bottom bearing arrangements are bolted onto the sealing covers and can thus be dismantled. SURFACE TREATMENT For surface treatment of helix and respective accessories are different systems and paint variants for various requirements available. DRIVE UNIT The drive unit of a screw conveyor trough pump consists of an electric motor, gearbox, anti-runback device, V-belt drive between gearbox and motor, an elastic coupling and all safety fixtures. Different gearbox models are deployed depending on the torque requirements and the installation situation. The V-belt drive used allows the conveying performance to be easily adjusted. If automatic, speed-optimised adjustment of the conveying performance is required, the drive unit is prepared for frequency converter operation, or a motor is deployed with an integrated frequency converter. CONCRETE TROUGH The most frequently used design is the stationary open concrete trough which is cast in suit with concrete provided by a civil contractor. The concrete trough is shaped (profiled) by a rail attached to the Archimedean screw pump. This ensures an accurate and even gap between helix and trough over the entire length of the concrete bed. STEEL TROUGH Another alternative to conventional cast-in-place concrete troughs is the screw-trough pump construction made of steel plate. This design makes it possible to use

Hydrodynamic screws
The new type of energy generation In the form of the Archimedean screw, the water extraction screw has been known since ancient times. What is new is the patented application, which by an inversion of the energy flow in its operation, turns the Archimedesâ screw trough pump into a power generator for the extraction of energy. A water power generating facility makes use of the energy difference between two different levels of flowing water by transferring the water from natural bed of the stream at the higher level to the bed at the lower level and effectively extracting its potential energy, which is then made available at the rotor shaft for further use.
Propeller pumps

Anaerobic Digestion
Advantages of this digestion process Process works independently from humidity of waste High flexibility in treatment of different types of organic waste High biogas quality Little exploitation costs Hygienization according to EU Animal By-Products Regulation 1774/2002 High compost quality High flexibility in marketing of digestate or compost No moving elements in the digestor Little energy consumption Little wear
Composting in rotating drums
Organic waste can also be treated efficiently by aerobic composting in rotating drums. Here the first intensive composting process takes place in a closed, forced aerated and temperature controlled steel drum with an especially developed protection layer against corrosion inside. The process is a dynamic system with the possibility to move the drum in a controlled way with a speed of up to 1 rotation per minute.
Composting in tunnels
The composting of organic waste is a proven and well developed technology. The tunnels are fabricated in concrete in different sizes and are equipped with an aeration floor developed by Ros Roca. The organic material is charged into the tunnels by front-end loader or automatically with conveyors. For aeration each tunnel is equipped with a blower which is blowing air through the aeration floor to ensure an efficient oxygen supply of the microorganisms. For charging or discharging the tunnels they are equipped with doors which are gas-tight to assure that no odour-loaded air can leak during the composting process. Usually the organic material is composted for two weeks in the tunnels. After that the organic material will be finally maturated by windrow composting. The process parameters like temperature, oxygen, carbon dioxide are measured continuously and are used to control the composting process. Odour-loaded air from the composting process is sucked off by ventilators and cleaned by scrubber / biofilter. Advantages of the tunnel composting process Composting in closed units makes possible specific sucking of odour-loaded air Minimised air consumption by computer control No mechanical equipment in a corrosive atmosphere Economic solution for small and big capacities Modular system easily extendable Simple compost maturation in windrows
