 line-scanners
line-scanners
New line-scanners for high-temperature metals processes
Land Instruments International has expanded its range of infrared line-scanners with models for imaging and controlling high-temperature processes in the metals industries. Collectively the new Landscan LSP10, LSP20 and LSP21 infrared linescanner heads cover the temperature spectrum from 200 to 1400¡ãC, encompassing almost every process in the production of billets, beams, sections, plate, strip, rod and wire. With more than fifteen years' experience of linescanning in metals manufacturing, Land's technical staff can advise on the most appropriate choice of scanning head, signalprocessor and software for all applications - continuous casting, hot rolling, galvanising, galvanneal and welding. Like all Landscan linescanners, the high-temperature models are sufficiently compact to allow installation where space is restricted. Each has a robust sapphire viewing window that protects against damage on theproduction line and keeps maintenance to a minimum. Scan speed, sighting angle and focus are all variable, and an integral laser targeting system simplifies the task of aligning the scanning head. One notable technical feature is the extremely fast speed of response which, at ¡Ü1us to 95% energy, achieves highly accurate hot edge detection that can be used to check on the width of the product being processed. A choice of Landscan Control signal processors and LSP mountings and accessories is available to interface with local process control systems and with the Landscan Windows Control and Analyse (WCA) software, which provides additional capacity for display, analysis and storage of recorded temperature data.

| Coal Fire Detection Coal Pile Fire Detector
Continuous Fire Detection in Coal Stockpiles
Storing coal in large piles has the inherent risk of spontaneous combustion. There are many industry guidelines to the best method for storing coal in piles. These guidelines include avoidance of spontaneous combustion with regard to pile angles, compression and surface smoothing. Even strict adherence to these guidelines (particularly with the more volatile coals) may in some circumstances not be enough. An early warning system to prevent the onset of fire remains the best and most reliable solution.
Features and Benefits
Easy Hotspot detection using thermographic image
Rapid alarm to initiate preventive action to avoid fire
Large area measurement - ideal for large stockpiles and yards
Straightforward installation and fully automatic operation
Minimal maintenance
Proven solution based upon years of experience
Continuous Thermographic Monitoring
Where a storage facility is large and difficult to access, a continuous and fully automatic monitoring device is the only option.
A fixed thermal imaging system located at a suitable viewing point can successfully monitor over a large area, and importantly detect hot spots. A scanning pan-and-tilt unit adds even greater flexibility to cover a larger area.
Preventive Action
The fixed thermal monitoring system provides a clear visible display (on a remote PC), and alarm outputs when hot spots are detected. Alarms will trigger action by plant personnel to prevent a major onset of fire - importantly, the success of these actions can be immediately assessed by checking the real-time thermal image.
Control, Analysis and Alarm functions
The thermal imaging system can be remotely setup and controlled via a PC. Comprehensive image analysis software enables a temperature range to be set to best indicate any hotspots. Alarms can be set to trigger at specific thresholds or monitor specific areas (e.g. high risk) within the stockyard.
All coal pile fire detector systems are designed to meet the exact needs of the individual stockyard. |
