Alfa Laval wins SEK 50 million energy efficiency order in China
Alfa Laval – a world leader in heat transfer, centrifugal separation and fluid handling – has received an order for compact heat exchangers for a petrochemical plant in China. The order value is about SEK 50 million and delivery is scheduled for 2012.
Alfa Laval – a world leader in heat transfer, centrifugal separation and fluid handling – has received an order for compact heat exchangers for a petrochemical plant in China. The order value is about SEK 50 million and delivery is scheduled for 2012.
The Alfa Laval heat exchangers will be used in the condensation phase in the production of phenol – mostly used for plastics and related materials.
”This is the second order from the process industry in Asia in a short time. The order confirms that our compact heat exchangers have a leading position for energy efficient solutions in the refinery and petrochemical industry”, says Lars Renström, President and CEO of the Alfa Laval Group.
Did you know that… phenol is used in a variety of products – even in cosmetics, such as sun lotion?

| Biofuels Energy supply for our time
The development of renewable energy sources such as ethanol, biodiesel and biogas is of great importance in securing future energy supplies, to decreasing oil dependency and environmental impact and to strengthening rural economies.
Alfa Laval has a well-established position in the biofuels area and supplies a comprehensive range of equipment for the production of both ethanol and biodiesel. Optimized use of energy and recovery of by-products are important criteria for cost-efficient production of biofuels and Alfa Lavalâs heat exchangers with excellent heat recovery as well as its efficient separation technology are widely used in this area.
Alfa Laval offers solutions for most processes in the distilling industry including the production of fuel ethanol.
The solutions comprise:
compact condensers and evaporators
column reboilers
mash heaters and fermenter coolers
stillage decanters
yeast separators
Reboilers and condensers are needed at either end of the distillation columns, and decanters and evaporators are used to process the stillage into an animal feed â distillersâ dried grains - which is the valuable by-product. Separators are used to recycle the yeast, which would otherwise be wasted.
Biodiesel is a renewable fuel that is rapidly gaining ground. It is a renewable fuel derived from vegetable oils or animal fats. Alfa Laval supplies heating, separation and mixing technologies adapted for the different biodiesel production steps.
The pre-treatment process removes impurities from the vegetable oil feedstock. Our high- speed separators, mixers and heat exchangers are used in this stage.
In the transesterification phase, the heart of the biodiesel process, our separators provide efficient separation of glycerine from biodiesel. We also supply heat transfer and mixing equipment for this process.
In the washing and drying phase Alfa Lavalâs heat exchangers offer space-saving solutions for evaporating methanol and/or water. Our high-speed separators ensure efficient water removal and decanter centrifuges for dewatering are able to handle high solid concentrates.

| Wastewater treatment Virtually all kinds of industrial activities and urban development result in sludge that is normally of little or no commercial value. Consequently, it represents a large disposal problem that is often costly to deal with. Alfa Lavalâs efficient solutions for reducing the volume of wastewater help to decrease disposal costs significantly.
We deal with all kinds of sludge, whether it comes from simple natural sedimentation, secondary biological treatment or advanced chemical treatment.
We treat:
Municipal waste. We are involved in the processing of sludge from the public sector from at least 200 million people.
Industrial waste. Our solutions are used in more than 1,000 industrial applications.
Water at water works. Our systems help produce 1.5 million cubic meters of potable water every day.
Three Alfa Laval products are of vital important in the wastewater treatment process.
Decanter centrifuges for sludge dewatering reduce transportation and disposal or drying costs while limiting negative effects on the environment. We also offer a decanter autopilot optimizing plant operation around the clock
Drum thickeners, used for thickening before dewatering, reduce sludge volume by up to 90% and improve the overall operation economy.
Spiral heat exchangers preheat the sludge to 60 degrees Celsius making it easier to dewater. They are also used for sludge pasteurization to meet even the most stringent environmental legislation as well as for digestion heating and effluent cooling for efficient overall performance.
Membrane filtration bioreactors remove unwanted micro particles from the wastewater.

Alfa Laval solution optimizes wastewater treatment efficiency
The project at Jinan No 2 Wastewater Treatment Plant has played an effective role
in combating the pollution of both the XiaoQing River and the XingJi River. The
succes of the project stems from its wastewater treatment system.
|
At the heart of dewatering
Sewage treatment is becoming more self-regulating and automated. A new
selfoptimizing dewatering system at a wastewater treatment plant in the
Netherlands has proven that this is the way to go.
|
Sludge disposal - less is more
Virtually all kinds of industrial activity result in sludge that needs to be disposed
of. The question is how well it can be done and at what cost. Alfa Laval has the
focus, the technologies and the know-how to deliver the best, most cost-effective
solution for modern sludge treatment. Meeting legislative requirements for efficient,
environmentally friendly sludge disposal demands new approaches.
