We are an international, medium-sized company based in Hirschau, Germany. AKW A+V Protec GmbH is privately owned and specialized in water and waste water treatment. In the field of apparatus and plant construction we have the know-how to present suitable solutions for all your particular and individual needs – especially for the treatment and the circulation of industrial waste water.
Another area of our business activities results from the purification of municipal waste water to the conditioning of drinking water and industrial water. Our long-term experience and know-how in the area of the biological waste water treatment allows us to develop and design compact waste-water treatment plants.
Our compact bioreactors are used both in railed vehicles and mobile sanitary containers with a recirculation of the flushing water.
In this sector we were able to pioneer in a new market segment and we could protect this advantage by patents that are internationally confirmed.
| Bioreactor for Railed Vehicles A special development of waste water treatment plant is the bioreactor that is installed and operated in railed vehicles. This is an adapted small sewage treatment plant and consists of a mechanical pre-treatment, an aerobic packed bed with nitrification and a final hygienisation process that purifies the waste water of the train toilets directly “on site”. This plant replaces the cost-intensive collection tank system that requires the extraction by suction of the waste water every other day and the subsequent purification in community facilities.
Several European railroad companies have already discovered the advantages of this system and use it large-scale.
The design of the system
The spatial construction of the plant can be adjusted to the respective vehicle-specific installation situation. As a general rule, there is a distinction between an installation in the vehicle and a space-saving underfloor installation of the Protec system. The last one results in no reduction of the seating capacity or the seating comfort of the vehicle. The bioreactor can be installed in high speed trains, local trains, it can be used when designing new trains and it can be used for refurbishments. |
| Disposal Equipment for Bioreactor Feces The key benefits of the bioreactor are the extended disposal intervals. To achieve these intervals it is necessary to drain the filtration chamber of the bioreactor completely. A suction device and a high-pressure cleaner are required to realize this draining. The bioreactor is periodically filled with water and drained afterwards by a combined flushing and draining procedure.
AKW A+V Protec GmbH delivers a mobile disposal equipment containing all required components. This unit was enhanced and guarantees an automatic disposal in combination with the bioreactors that provide the equipment necessary for this purpose.
Over longer periods advanced purification is advised by using a decalcification process. The time interval is primarily determined by the composition of the flushing water and the waste water. This procedure may also be carried out with the mobile disposal equipment without using any additional equipment.

| Treatment of Drinking and Industrial Water Besides industrial solutions within the scope of the treatment of process water AKW A+V Protec GmbH has processes and methods for the treatment of drinking water and industrial water.
By using desalination plants it is possible to treat groundwater and surface water with a high salt content (brackish water and seawater) to a level to be used as drinking water as well as process water.
Our process reverse osmosis guarantees a high cost-effectiveness as well as a high efficiency and effectiveness.
Depending on the water quality the treatment of the drinking water is usually done in five steps.
