The Liebherr family business was established in 1949 by Hans Liebherr. The great success of his first mobile, easy-to-assemble and affordable tower crane was the foundation on which the company flourished. Today Liebherr is not only one of the world’s leading manufacturers of construction machinery but is also an acknowledged supplier of technically innovative user-oriented products and services in numerous other fields. Over the years the family business has grown into what is today a group of companies, employing a workforce of approx. 26,000 in more than 100 companies on all continents.
The decentrally organized Liebherr Group is divided into company units of manageable size, operating independently. This is to ensure proximity to the customer and the ability to respond flexibly to market signals in global competition. Operative management of the production and sales companies for the individual product segments is in the hands of divisional control companies. The Liebherr Group’s holding company is Liebherr-International AG in Bulle, Switzerland, which is entirely owned by members of the Liebherr family. The family business is already in the hands of the second generation and is jointly managed by Isolde Liebherr and Willi Liebherr.
| Liebherr crawler loader in operation All machine types in the crawler loader range are hydrostatically driven. Arrangement of the diesel engine at the rear of the machine allows a well-balanced weight distribution and optimum visibility. The powerful Z-bar linkage effects high lifting and breakout forces, as well as quick work cycles. |
| Liebherr crawler tractor in operation All tractors in the range use hydrostatic transmission systems. This allows them to manoeuver with both tracks powered and without shifting gears. The machines can also turn in very tight circles and even counter-rotate on the spot. |
| Liebherr earthmoving machines For the earthmoving machinery sector Liebherr produces an extensive range of hydraulic excavators, hydraulic rope excavators, crawler tractors and loaders, wheel loaders and dumper trucks. The high quality requirements with which Liebherr products have to comply are ensured by in-house production of major sub-assemblies in a large part of the programme. For example, Liebherr itself develops and manufactures the entire driveline and control technology including the diesel engine, hydraulic system and transmission product groups. Liebherr offers efficient worldwide service at any operating site to ensure the availability of its earthmoving machinery. A closely spaced international network ensures qualified customer service and the supply of original spare parts around the clock. |
| Liebherr pipelayer at a pipeline application Liebherr's range of crawler-tracked machines includes three pipelayers and one welding tractor. These machines are powered by engines ranging from 97 to 243 kW. Their operating weights lie between 17 and 53 tonnes. |
| Liebherr-Crawler excavator Liebherr manufactures tailor-made crawler excavators, with the world's most extensive range of machines and attachments. This range includes 15 machines featuring operating weights of between 17 t and 655 t and engine outputs of between 86 kW and 2 240 kW. Each crawler excavator is thus ideally suited to the requirements of the applications at site.
All working attachments, whether backhoe bucket, bottom-dump bucket, material handling or demolition attachment, are designed and manufactured by Liebherr.

| Liebherr-Wheel loader in operation The smaller wheel loader models L 506 - L 514, the so-called stereoloader, distinguish themselves via their particular manoeuvrability, compact design and smooth travel characteristics, as well as centre-pivot and rear wheel steering and oscillating frame articulation and oscillating rear axle
The main features of the larger wheel loaders are cost-effectiveness and environmental-friendliness. They consumes up to 25 % less fuel than comparable machines from other manufacturers under the same operating conditions. Additionally, wheel loaders upwards of the model L 524 2plus1 offer a further optimisation of the hydrostatic travel drive, effecting the wheel loader to smoothly adapt itself to the required travel speed and drawbar pull independently to every operational situation.
