Steinzeug | Keramo specialises in the production and development of vitrified clay pipes and fittings.
Three production units in Hasselt (Belgium), Cologne and Bad Schmiedeberg (both in Germany) manufacture high-quality sewerage products for sewer systems and for industrial applications.
Steinzeug | Keramo offers a complete range of pipes and fittings in diameters from DN 100 mm to 1400 mm. Along with the traditional pipes and fittings with spigot and socket joints, microtunnelling pipes, inliner pipes, drainage pipes, inspection manholes and cladding sheets are all part of the product range.
Vitrified clay is a material that arises after firing high quality clay in controlled circumstances at a temperature of circa 1200 °C. In contrast to many other materials used in the sewerage industry vitrified clay is chemically and mechanically resistant and also, in part, due to its excellent hydraulic characteristics, guarantees an extremely long lifespan.
Steinzeug | Keramo sells its products all over the world. The main markets are found in Europe, the Middle East, the Far East and Oceania. The sales are conducted locally either via a network of permanent staff or via local market partners.
| Connecting sockets Connecting pipes can be done by drilling into the pipes on site and fitting a vitrified clay push-in socket into the hole drilled.
Vitrified clay connecting sockets are available in DN 150 and DN 200 and exist in various shank lengths.
The choice of the shank length is made on the basis of the thickness of the wall of the pipes. The contract specification documentation in principle indicates how far connecting sockets may extend into the pipe and to what extent the wall thickness has to be covered.
Connections can be made as from 40 mm wall thickness in the pipeline. This means that, for example in vitrified clay, a connection can be made from DN 400 normal wall.
DN 150
Connecting sockets DN 150 are available with four shank lengths, namely 40 mm, 70 mm and 100 mm and 200 mm. The opening to be drilled is 200 to 201 mm.
DN 200
Connecting sockets DN 200 are available with three shank lengths, namely 40 mm, 70 mm and 100 mm. The opening to be drilled is 257 to 258 mm.

| Inspection chambers Steinzeug | Keramo has developed various inspection systems:
- Mini chambers with DN 300 or 400 riser pipes in vitrified clay with finished flow line (straight 180° or right angled 90°) and pre-fitted joints;
- Inspection pipes constructed from pipe fittings with a rising diameter in the same diameter as the main sewer; for example DN 150/150 or 200/200 mm. This makes it possible to carry out visual inspection and detect blockages. Siphons with inspection openings for connecting
pipelines are also available, although from a hydraulic design perspective these are best avoided. With wastewater connections it is important that the flow profiles run evenly.
Square edges, sharp bends or obstructions of the flow line should be avoided.
- Inspections made of pipe fittings, where the riser has the same diameter as the main sewer can be useful when no other pipelines are connected to the main sewer over long distances.
High pressure cleaning and camera inspection can be carried out in risers with a minimum diameter of DN250.
- Inspection chambers or manholes in vitrified clay in diameters from 400 mm up to and including 1400 mm, including finished channel and benching with prefitted connections,
hoisting hooks, adaptors and load spreading plate;
- Pipe connecting pieces are provided (BKL, BKK, GE, GM). Given that concrete manholes are not sufficiently resistant to abrasion or chemicals, these are often lined at the flow line with vitrified clay half channels and possibly a bench protection with a thick layer of epoxy. A variation on this method consists of leading the pipes closed through the manhole. In that case an opening is cut out and then sealed with a stainless steel lid.
Practical:
The product range contains inspections systems for vitrified clay sewers, adapted to every situation.

| Miocrotunnelling Vitrified clay pipes for microtunnelling applications are available in sizes DN 150 to DN 1400.
Apart from pipes that are entirely made of vitrified clay, concrete jacking pipes with an inliner consisting of a vitrified clay pipe or Keraline v.c. tiles are available in various profiles.
Most of these vitrified clay pipes have a greater wall thickness than extra strength pipes for open trench applications. They are machine rebated very precisely at both ends. The joint between 2 pipes is rebated with respect to the outer diameter to accommodate a coupling.
Vitrified clay thrust bore pipes have a very end load capability. Because they are also glazed on the outside the friction in the ground is therefore reduced which is ideal for microtunnelling.
Push-on connector types
The vitrified clay microtunnelling pipe DN 150 is mostly used for house connections or public sewer connections. The coupling is done with a push-on socket of glass-fibre reinforced polypropylene.
Vitrified clay microtunnelling pipes DN 200 to DN 1400 have a coupling from stainless steel with permanently fixed rubber sealing elements.
Pipe lengths
All pipes are 1.0m or 2.0 m long, except for DN 150, which is only available in 1.0 m lengths.

For open trench the range of pipes is DN 100 up to DN 1400 and all pipe fittings needed to construct a complete sewerage network. In addition we also have a wide range of accessories for connecting other materials to a vitrified clay system and to facilitate the installation of vitrified clay pipes. We also supply vitrified clay inspection chambers and manholes up to DN 1200, which can all be customised.
For jacking we offer vitrified pipes in diameters from DN 150 up to DN 1400 with push-on couplings. You can also find pipe fittings and accessories to complement this range.
Our relining pipes have machined ends and push-on couplings.
In the drainage pipes range you find two versions.
For renovation we offer Keraline. These ceramic cladding elements consist of tiles, which are assembled together with epoxy joints to form large sheets.

| T pipes T inspection pipes in vitrified clay can be supplied for all pipe diameters in the range DN 250 and larger. The opening is usually a connection socket of DN 150 and DN 200. The T pipes sized DN 250 to 400 are usually ex stock. Other diameters can be manufactured on request. A T pipe with a DN 150 junction can be made from a pipe size DN 250 and larger, a T pipe with a DN 200 junction from DN 400 and larger.
T pipes are installed in new construction projects. | |
