SILOTANK is a diverse plastics engineering company. In 1992 the company produced tanks & silos using Centrifugal Moulding Process and today these products are still operating with little or no maintenance. The limitation in mould diameters for the Centrifugal Moulding machine encouraged the company to invest in 3 axis helical filament winding technology and a range of mandrels from 1.00 metre diameter up to 4.50 metre diameter. In 1994 SILOTANK recruited key personnel, skilled in thermoplastic fabrication and invested in a thermoplastic Butt welding machine allowing the company to fabricate large diameter and large capacity thermoplastic tanks. This Butt welding machine was also used to produce dual laminate liners providing weld quality benefits to Dual Laminate fabrication which allowed Silotank to cater for aggressive chemicals and environments. Through the years Silotank has gained the reputation as having the 'in-house' skills to design and fabricate complex designs tanks, scrubbers etc at large diameters. SILOTANK is a privately owned company, the key shareholders are heavily involved in the strategic planning and day to day operation of the business. Providing quality produce and service has been the ethos from the outset. We have a team whose key shareholders have 30 years experience in site fabrication and installation. This has allowed SILOTANK to successfully install large value projects. Today SILOTANK remains a leader in innovative thermoplastic and GRP systems for the fabrication of tanks, silos, scrubbers, ductwork, pipework, as well as chemical resistant lining systems for steel using GRP and thermoplastic materials. SILOTANK'S vast experience will ensure that we engineer the best solution for your application. Our recommendations are not biased by limitations in our manufacturing processes and skills.
| Biofilters Our range of PermaBio units are designed to provide high efficiency in removal of odour. The units operate counter current. With competing shell systems the shell media is active in the scrubbing process and breakdown which dramatically reduces the removal efficiency of the biofilter. With the SILOTANK PermaBio range the media is inactive and does not breakdown with the result that removal efficiency is guaranteed 100% of operational time. Under IPPC you must prove that the biofilter will provide the same removal efficiecy consistently. This cannot be guaranteed with traditional shell systems |
| carbon adsorber Solvents, volatile organic compounds (VOCâs) & malodours in liquid or gas phase can be absorbed onto activated carbon. The contaminants are removed from the gas or liquid stream by the process of physical adsorption. The removal efficiencies depends on the type of carbon, gas flow rate and the inlet levels of contaminates.
The contaminated gas is passed through the carbon bed and due to the highly porous structure of granular carbon having a large surface area, high levels of contaminates are absorbed. When the carbon material becomes saturated with contaminants the material is removed and exchanged with fresh carbon material. Alternatively the exhausted carbon material can be regenerated with chemical in situ. This involves the carbon bed being flooded with a chemical reagent however the carbon bed will eventually become exhausted having to be replaced.
Where high gas flow rates are present the use of carbon absorbers would be very costly to operate. In these cases wet scrubbing or stripping would be used first with carbon absorbers being used to âpolishâ the gas. Where wet scrubbing is used a first stage process the humidity levels of the gas are critical for the success of the carbon absorption process. The photograph show 3 No 4600mm diameter Acid/Alkali Scrubbers used prior to 2 No 3500mm diameter Carbon Absorbers.
SILOTANK supply single bed, dual bed and annular basket designs. Annular Basket Carbon Absorbers have been constructed to 4500mm diameter x 7500mm |
| Chemical fume scrubber Scrubbers
Ever more rigorous legislation and increasing public anxiety have focused awareness within industry on the need to contain potentially offensive and noxious emissions. The COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) Regulations introduced in 1989 and the requirements of the Health & Safety Executive, HM Inspectorate of Pollution and Local authorities exemplify the detailed obligations which must already be considered - and the momentum towards generally tighter monitoring and control is gathering pace.
SILOTANKS' work in the environmental field is focused on the application of mass transfer technology applied to the abatement of air and water bourne pollution.
Scrubbing technologies include:
Packed Bed Scrubbing
Venturi Scrubbing

| Filament Wound These GRP Tank systems can be fabricated from a range of isopthalic and vinylester resin. Standard range of systems up to 100,000 litres.
Filament Wound Minitanks can be manufactured in a range of diameters. Units can be made with either polyester or vinyl-ester resins depending on the chemical. Systems up to 100,000 litres have been successfully constructed and installed incorporating weather protection shrouds. Minitank systems can be supplied with level indication systems such as ultra sonic and Norman gauges. Systems can also be supplied with GRP ladders, platforms and walkways. |
| Powder and Granule Handling Systems SILOTANK have a long history as suppliers of Handling Systems and their turnkey plant is synonymous with high build quality with attention to detail with leads to solid customer satisfaction.
Handling Systems for Powders & Granules
Lime Handling System & Preparation System
Sodium Bicarbonate & Preparation System
Polypropylene & Polyethylene Granule Systems & Vacuum Conveying systems
SILOTANK utilise GRP silos and hoppers within the handling systems due to the excellent characteristics of the material over traditional metals and alloys.
Advantages of GRP over Metal and Alloys
The advantages of GRP over steel is that the silos shells are manufactured on a helical filament winding machine and is a one piece construction with a glass smooth internal surface which leads to excellent flow characteristics.
The GRP material has a very low thermal conductivity which means that the material does not sweat i.e there will be little or no condensation on the inside surface of the silo.
The materials of construction are chemical resistant to hydrated lime, sodium carbonate, GAC, cement powder so no internal chemical resistant coating are required as with steel silos.
The silo has a high strength to weight ratio due to the helical wound laminate. Our helical would laminates achieve 60% glassfibre content which gives tremendous strength compared to steel.
Reduced civil requirements due lighter weight of silo.
The supporting steelwork ring is bonded into the shell laminate so it becomes and integral part of the structure so you are not relying on steel welding.
