Expertise and advances in avoidance and treatment of industrial drainage water and wastewater and life cycle management of process water has a name: KMU has been synonymous with top quality, scientific creativity and practically oriented development since 1990. The company was founded in 1990, in Steinen near Lörrach, by Erich Hildebrandt. Wastewater-free operation and reduction of waste volumes and disposal costs have been the declared objectives of the company right from the start. From these modest beginnings, a leading company in the field of complete wastewater treatment and process water life-cycle management plants developed over the years. Today, the company employs over 30 permanent staff in the areas of development, production, sales, service and administration. By 1999, this positive development had made it possible to build a modern office and production complex in Hausen. In the year 2000, KMU received DIN ISO 9001 certification.
Many more than 700 systems have already been delivered to places where they can contribute to environmental protection efforts. Well-tuned logistics and a dense service network ensure that service and replacement parts get to customers within 24 hours. High levels of process safety and reliability are ensured by extensive qualification testing in the KMU engineering laboratory, where preview feasibility trials are realized under real conditions.
Contaminated water does not purify itself. Especially not in water into which industrial drainage water and wastewater are discharged. Plants and systems from KMU are needed to get things really cleared up in that kind of situation. KMU offers innovative technologies, individual solutions, sound consulting and excellent service when it comes to treatment and avoidance of wastewater and life-cycle management of process water. The latest research results and regulations are applied. Many more than 700 plants are now in operation all over Europe in a wide variety of branches, making KMU a market leader in the field.
The core elements of our systems are evaporator systems, developed, manufactured and sold by KMU under the brand name PROWADEST®. The current generation of PROWADEST® evaporator systems in particular are readily integrated in systematic plant designs. This guarantees excellent coordination, harmonization and continuity of quality and is reliable way of making sure the end-product distillates free of salts, germs and heavy metals can be reused in the production process as fresh water. This reduces the burden on valuable water resources, saves high disposal costs and stays in line with stringent environmental regulations.
| BELT FILTER These systems are used to remove suspended matter, sludges and chips from water. Belt filters can be supplied as individual aggregates or within the framework of all-inclusive water treatment plants. Typical applications include removal of abraded material from polishing, removal of cooling lubricants following machining and retention of neutralization sludge during water treatment. |
| DI RECIRCULATION SYSTEMS Recirculation DI (deionization) systems are used for complete demineralization of water. Conductance can be reduced to
< 10 ÂľS/cm. In surface engineering, this water is used to realize high-grade rinsing and spotless drying. Desalination is realized in a cation and anion exchanger. Cations are positively charged ions such as sodium and metals. Anions are negatively charged ions such as chloride, sulphate, fluoride and nitrate. To protect the ion-exchange resins from organic components, an active charcoal filter is installed upstream from the resins.
Regeneration of the system is done automatically by backwashing the activated charcoal. The anionic resins are regenerated with lye, the cationic resins with acid. The regenerated materials must then either be put through a wastewater treatment plant or disposed of by a specialist operation.

| Membrane process equipment Membrane process equipment is projected and built according to customer specifications and the volume and composition of the water. Optimized solutions are achieved with custom systems or combinations with other processes.
Examples of applications: (additional sizes on request)
MF 150:Microfiltration for continuous removal of oils from a degreasing bath. Throughput volume 150 l/h
UF 60: Ultrafiltration for removal of hydrocarbons that have also been vaporized from the distillate of an evaporator system

| REVERSE OSMOSIS Desalination plants using the reverse osmosis process are used to desalinate drinking water in accordance with the German Drinking Water Ordinance. As a rule, the systems are supplied as compact units comprising a softening and a desalination unit. The softening unit removes hardness constituents. Regeneration is realized automatically by means of a saline solution. In two-way operation of the softening unit, a second resin continues to decalcify water while the first resin is regenerating. In the system for one-way operation, no more fresh water is introduced during regeneration. The residual hardness is automatically monitored.
Reverse osmosis desalinates the softened drinking water by retaining salts in one module. This salt solution can be discharged into the sewer as regenerated material. The permeate, with conductance of < 15 ÂľS, can be used as high-grade fully demineralized water. A further reduction of conductance is possible by means of a combination with a mixed-bed resin.
